Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

My appointments are all starting back again way too soon. Yesterday, I returned to Clifton hill to see my GP and as my favourite cafe is not yet back after Christmas, I found another place to have a quick light lunch. a rather strong coffee with an almond croissant. Neither as good as at my regular haunt. Over my respite, I wrote some blogposts.

I confess to say over Christmas and the New Year, I’ve only left my apartment on the Friday’s to restock. I have not even checked my letterbox. Do I feel badly? No, I do not.

Tuesday ended with my egg dealer delivering my eggs. In my efforts to create community, I have become the middle person between my egg supplier, Bill who I prefer to call my egg dealer and about four others for free range happy-eggs! I was expecting him Thursday evening but he ended up in the area earlier. Just in time for a true wog classic. Poached eggs in sauce, these were the two eggs before I put them in the sauce. Feel free to count?

The trays of eggs are 20 to a tray. My masseuse is not back from India until next week and she has forty eggs awaiting her return. I then of course like to remind people if they don’t collect them In a timely manner, I don’t want to wake up in the morning surrounded by 100 baby chicks recently hatched.

To be clear, I think Bill delivers the day the eggs get picked. You realise, eggs do not grow on trees? And eggs need to be sat on, by a hen for some weeks or kept warm another artificial way to hatch presuming they are even viable.

My mum had about twenty chooks when I lived up in the country 20 years ago. So, in short waking up surrounded by little yellow chicks. Not going to happen. But I hope you can imagine the image I just described…..?

Poor Mika would be beside herself! Get them off me!

Also, don’t think I’ve ignored the worldwide exposure of the bushfires in Australia! Melbourne has a Smokey haze over it. Homes and lives have been lost and it’s just the start of summer. It’s just the beginning……………

Will be back to normal programming next week for sure!

Today’s Lunch

A very special good mental health day post!

Happy New Year! Now, recapping and completely from memory, I made a New Year’s resolution last year. I don’t normally bother but last year I did, I set the goal to finish that bottle of Baileys that had been in the bottom of my fridge the last 2 Christmas’s.

https://hellonwheelslifeonehanded.wordpress.com/2019/09/18/todays-lunch-18th-september-2019/

Well, I had to make a note once a month to remind me to have a little nip. But I’m proud to say. Nailed it! By July even and it was so good I was tempted to go get another smaller bottle. But alas, barely a drinker so I didn’t.

So, because it went so well, I thought I’d offer some New Year’s resolutions for me to achieve in 2020

Note: achievable goals. Don’t judge me……

Eat less meals every day on my couch, maybe one of those meals could be had at my dining table. Spoiler alert! I’ve been working on this already and 2. Baby steps here, get to bed by midnight. It’s really hard to break a life time of bad sleeping habits and to quote Stephanie in Norfolk “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” 3, and not in any particularly order, I intend to call friends more often to chat. Long chats.

Do you have any resolutions you want to share?

Let us all ask the Universe to bring us what we need in 2020. To be happy, safe and prosperous. To be kinder to others and ourselves and for there to be more time and lastly, a classic New Year’s anthem from my teenage years. Enjoy…..

Cheers,
H

Today’s Lunch

Good mental health day! Or as I like to say Merry fucking Christmas!

It’s actually Tuesday right now, Christmas Eve as I tap this out. It’s a good day, I’m well-adjusted as I’ve seen my chiropractor who I won’t see now until mid-January. My girl Friday and I had fish and chips for lunch in Fairfield.

I will have a medicine later at home. I received a gift from my mum yesterday in the post and presuming it was a tree, due to its shape, I’ve left it to open tomorrow. A message late last night came from my mum stating I should open it and that it wasn’t a tree? I don’t know, you tell me? Mine is on the right, she lied didn’t she! It’s a tree!

My Christmas Tree

Mums Christmas Tree

Also, a photo of it during daylight without the lights on. I hope JD is impressed? As promised, cat-friendly. It is sitting on top of things in my living room about a metre off the ground and Mika can’t get to it, or shows little interest.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. Be safe and try not to eat too much. I received my new NDIS Plan just in time for Christmas. I’m not looking at it until Thursday and over the New Year, I need to take some time off. My first medical appointment in the new year is the 9th and all the crazy starts again.

Also, while my girl-Friday was away I had some fresh new carers, one day I was in K-Mart on an important call from a lawyer. Trying to take it seriously when I looked up and this is how my girl-Friday 2, Oh had kept herself busy……..

I don’t know how I made it through that phone call.

Lastly, a big thanks for my wonderful blog administrator Noelle for whom hellonwheels would not happen. I am lucky her husband has a thing for trying to give himself diabetes. Last week, I managed to mule some gifts their way via a friend.

And today, the 24th, I managed to mule some goodies to the States to be sent to my friend in Texas! I have a post to write about to gift for appropriating people to mule things for me.

Also, Many thanks for my 200+ followers, for comments from close and far. Hope to see you in 2020!

Rest! Replenish and see you back for more in 2020!

Cheers,
H

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

It feels like just yesterday was the 1st December and all of a sudden Christmas is next week. I’m not ready! I still haven’t done my Christmas cards yet, not kidding. If you are expecting one? It’s coming, it will just be late.

Last week I had a stressful week thinking my laptop had died, I was not happy. Took a serious effort to work out the not one but both power cords for my laptop had been compromised. One cord had bare wires, the culprit?

Stay tuned Friday for a brand-new post about my plans for Christmas, spoiler alert. I’m staying home with the above alone and stay tuned to appreciate why it’s the best option.

Meanwhile, really need a stress-free lunch today. So, here it is, Chicken and Tumeric salad and medicine.

And I got a present from Robert & his wife Nikki.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Today, while still a classic mid-week foodie post I’m giving you a crash course in classic Melbourne weather, we are only 10 days into summer. Part of Australia is on fire! Sydney, is covered in smoke.

And on Monday, Melbourne had a hot day, close to 40 degrees. I was down in Collingwood for my osteo appointment and as we sat around complaining about the oven-like temperature an older gentleman informed us in no uncertain terms we were complaining too much and I quote: “It’s been summer for 6 hours and you are all acting like you are going to die!”  I agreed with him but told him tartly, “you make a fine point except for the fact that two weeks ago we had our second fake winter!”

I’ve been way too busy of late and with carers away on holidays, I’ve had many a call or text to negotiate last minute changes. It’s an ongoing saga. I refer to it as Putting out spitfires! Obviously, preferable to actual fires.

Last week, I had a migraine for days! As I ended up taking a tramadol! And Thursday my carer convinced me to go back to bed. She actually tucked me in. #love my carers

Today, I’m over in the west, in Footscray! (I refer to it as ‘scray!) As I’m at a meeting finishing this post.  Had a visit with Wilbur yesterday.

What? You can’t imagine I can multi-task one-handed? Have you met me? My names Helen! And today’s lunch is…………….some healthy fruit, beetroot dip & crackers.

Note; NO MEDICINE?!!!!!(coffee)

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Anyone else thinking with the arrival of December that Christmas is too soon? I’m still planning to stay-cation. I might get a break, sufficient air-con and I may even watch a few films, I’ve been working on my never-ending list of TV shows. I can’t cull anything. I must watch everything. Since I can’t read books anymore.

Currently, I’m watching season 2 of Pose and crying. And all the appropriate uses of the word ‘Bitch’. Really, it’s eye-opening, sweet, beautiful and sad. But reality for gay men in the early 90’s. Oh, and legs that go on for days. Those bitches! Really!

Yesterday I went to the city to attend a launch of a project I participated with earlier this year. So, today I bring you the link to the website from the project Opening Doors. Watch my video if you dare.

https://openingdoors.net.au/our-lived-experience/

I’ve only seen a little of it so far but, you saw the photo of me in my study a few weeks back. When I walked into the gallery space and saw it, I thought I looked really pissed off, I was told others thought I looked strong. The space yesterday for the launch allowed some interaction. Here’s what I added to the picture of me.

Meanwhile, where were we? Oh yes. Our standard foodie post. Today’s lunch is brain grain salad and medicine to help my migraine!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Where were we? I had an appointment today with a follow-up at the sleep clinic. Yes! Yes! It’s still going on and I booked an appointment in my 2020 diary today for next September. Looks like I’m carrying around two diaries until January already! Too soon! Just too soon!

Last Thursday night I went to see the world release of film called Spirits in the forest. It was amazing!

https://www.orlandoweekly.com/Blogs/archives/2019/11/20/depeche-modes-spirits-in-the-forest-documents-their-world-tour-at-maitlands-enzian

Take the time to watch it. My favourite quote is when a fan describes seeing Depeche Mode in concert as the closest thing to going to church. My other favourite quote includes a crown and a cape and retiring g the someone. I was not the only person to laugh! They are definitely my favourite band despite the fact they have not toured in Australia since 1994, when I went to the after party and met the band! You heard me!

Here is a quick shout out to my friend William the owner of this vlog! I know not much about V8 Super car, but then I don’t need to? I know someone who does………..

www.williamsperfectride.com

And just before summer hits in Melbourne, these are my first Christmas Lillie’s out on my balcony.

I’m actually currently planning my Christmas at home in Melbourne rather than going to the country. To be continued on that front…….

But it really feels a calmer week this week so today’s lunch is a nice change, so today’s lunch is the Moroccan chicken salad with medicine!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Happy hump day! It’s hot in Melbourne today! Have I ever mentioned how much I love hot weather? (Sarcasm) Yeah, that’s because I don’t! And I’m out in it……all day!

Even though my AVM (Artereovenous Malformation) has been fried with radiation so it’s not at risk of a bleed, a stroke or even blood flow but in hot weather my brain is not happy. My left side of my body works even worse than normal. So, my AFO and Shoe wears not quite right. My body compensates by just pushing through and smashing it out. I still have all the same deadlines. The same appointments to get to. At least once home I have air-conditioning and cold water in the fridge. Once home the cool change will throw my brain into a brain freeze. I predict a kip until my brain and body normalises. Welcome to my summer!

Meanwhile, luckily as I was here yesterday, much cooler. I had yummy sausage roll with relish and a side salad and medicine and macaron. Everything else had sold out!

Meanwhile, today’s lunch consisted of…….the brain grain salad. And medicine.

Glad I’m at home for the most part tomorrow for an even hotter day!

Meanwhile my Egg-Dealer is back from his holiday in Queensland! Putting in a huge order. Hoping the eggs don’t fry in my apartment or hatch! Got a mental image of little chicks chasing Mika! “Muma? Muma?” To cement the image, I’m ordering 140 eggs! Poor Mika!

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Last week I mentioned an exhibition opening I was to attend. That whole day did go to plan thankfully, including an hour kip and getting back to the city with 10 minutes to spare to see Dylan Moran at Hamer Hall. Hilarious!

These were my two favourite portraits in the exhibition. I didn’t even take one of mine.

The Opening Doors project will launch its website early December. I’ll share the link then.

Well, needing a calm lunch as my regular girl Wednesday has taken leave to go to Disneyland. With a different carer than usual. I suggested a postcard for her favourite client and I was told she would be too busy. I was serious the first time I suggested it but after that I was just teasing her.

Yesterday, after going to the AGM (Annual General Meeting) I had my nice monthly migraine for the rest of the day! You may wonder if going to the advocacy group I attend e dry on this worth the pain? It’s necessary connected. To network and connected to ‘my’ even if all the time I’m reminded I don’t fit in with ‘normal’ people that I am always desperate to connect with in some long-lasting way. I am often left feeling even more alone. Or in some way unworthy. Yeah, it’s super!

Today’s offering is a bolognaise arancini with side salad and medicine.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Again, another Wednesday where lunch may not even happen. I have a long day planned. Fingers crossed it goes to plan. Which means maybe the best way to explain, is to share?

Today, a carer to help me get it together and get out for the day. So far, so good. Make a call or two over breakfast. My second carer arrives and we depart, deliver a container to my local cafe and pay for tomorrow’s late lunch for my masseuse Caroline and I to share. Off to my chiropractor. Then the pet shop. Bosley has found a home! Yay! My girl-Wednesday and I visit Nelly’s Arc every week. It’s where I found my Mika.

Nelly’s Arc is supplied by the Neko Lounge.

Next, I’m off to the city to go to an exhibition opening. I participated in a project about what a home means to people with disabilities. A group of us were interviewed, filmed for a website, photographed in our homes then an exhibition was created with photos also. It’s great to be part of something useful to a broader community, that gives people an insight into the lives of people with disabilities.

Then, off home for a kip! I actually have scheduled a kip for special reasons. Alarm! (I hate setting an alarm! But up, early dinner. Keep cup of medicine then a tram to the city. Meeting Caroline at Hamer Hall to see a comedian. Dylan Moran! I’ve seen him twice already so I already know he is very funny. If you are not familiar with his work you should check him out. He was also in the very hilarious series called Black Books. I am overdue to re-watch this show. I shall let you know next Wednesday.

Dylan Moran

I did get to sort of have lunch on the train into the city. I think I survive by preparing things in advance for busy days. I had a croissant with ham & cheese. That I baked, froze, defrosted then completely flattened in my panini press!

Well, this is the plan at least!

Cheers, H
