Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Another mid-week post, it’s not getting old. Good food, better medicine. My favourite cafe never gets old. What gets old is doing adult so much it’s squeezing time to eat and write into oblivion. Note, the less lunch my lunch resembles and more like afternoon tea.

Yesterday, was at the self-advocacy group I attend. Picked up some comedy tickets for next March! Yippy! Stay tuned for that!

Here is a photo of what’s referred to as the witches’ hat in the Arts Precinct in Melbourne.

Note the beautiful spring day in Melbourne.

Today’s offering is Carrot cake and medicine (One of my serves of vegetables every day!) and the pretty strawberry daiquiri my lovely assistant is having.

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Well, this week has been very different from normal, I even left the house (apartment) on Sunday. I went to what I like to call the crazy cat lady festival. It was the cat show on at the exhibition buildings in Carlton.

And my friend, her son and the son’s girlfriend that were nice enough to take me, great day! Just great!

Even when pulling out of the underground carport, after getting lost looking for the exit. “Look toward the light! Go to the light!” And my friend’s son replying to me “I’ve had just about enough of you!” Totally felt like part of the family…….

Go to the light

Tuesday I was at the committee meeting I go to for the self-advocacy brain injury group I’m a member of, coming home with the standard side serve of migraine.

Committee Meeting

Super!

Wednesday, now today! No Chiro or acupuncture to help with the migraine.  I definitely had to get out to my favourite location for some normal. That said! Today’s offering? The brain grain salad, with the standard medicine and carrot cake, does it count for one of my veggie servings for the day? Just asking!

Cute

Cute

Cute

I’ve been called many things in my life. Many, many things and on a rare occasion I get called ‘cute’ or more that I have done something ‘cute’.

Being cute

Last week upon arriving at my favourite café, I don’t speak ‘hospitability’ so it’s got the system where you arrive, walk past all the beautifully made and displayed “sweet things”, then the savoury. You are often prompted by a friendly face behind the counter who takes your order, you pay, shuffle along, receive a number on a small metal stand. Then you take a seat and your purchase arrives with a cheery smile. To be clear, I don’t need a number. The staff know my by name and where I sit.

Walk into a cafe

Occasionally, someone doesn’t seem to know the ‘system’ and I don’t want to push in, if they are ahead of me in the queue, so I offer a prompt, if they are undecided about what to get.

Make a decision

Two slim gentlemen were away from the counter, so I kindly asked if they needed help to decide. They very shyly motioned they were waiting for their order to take with them.

My name was said and I looked behind the counter (on my blind side) Robert the owner was there. I thought to mention to the waiting me, this was Robert the owner when he handed out a packet of “Goodness” to them and I read the situation correctly to move on.

Move on

I politely smiled, inclined my head and moved to order, pay and find my seat.

Let me premise this next bit by saying, to the common foodie, like me, famous chefs host Masterchef and go by the names, George (Calembasis), Gary (who my chiro states, is seen out in her neighbourhood walking his dog) and Matt (Preston). The cravat king of Australia.

Masterchef

Once in my seat in the room before the kitchen, he stopped at my table to ask me what I had said out the front, I explained and he told me it was really cute because…

Oh? Why?

Keeping in mind, a woman once asked if the carrot cake was good. Said customer was like me, we do not eat a packet mix carrot cake. It must be moist and have cream cheese frosting with just the right amount of sugar. Just like a CWA (Country Women’s Association) would make.

Carrot cake

Like I make or my mother. The staff member she asked at the time was new and hadn’t tried the carrot cake, so I offered my tick of approval. I didn’t just tell her it was good, because I thought it would sound trite, so I did it creatively. She seemed to appreciate my efforts, I’m certain she bought it.

So, I digress. My offer to advise was cute, because he was a famous chef.

Famous chef

What! Was he? He wasn’t George, Gary or Matt Preston and I don’t do ex-foodie adventures, so I didn’t know, I had to ask.

Robert mentioned several restaurants around Melbourne, he owns all of which meant little to me. I asked him to write down his name for me, he obliged.

I have some “Foodie” friends and my older sister and partner, do the “Foodie” scene in Melbourne.

Foodie Friend

Mentioning him to my Boo, my friend who once worked for Gordon Ramsay, gave me a bit of a “meh” OK? Which I took to be akin to a “whatever”, so I mentioned to another of my gay “Foodie” friends, who very promptly responded with a big smile.

Gordon Ramsay

Have I mentioned yet, I’m really “chill” around famous people?

Hot off the Press – 19th June 2017

Hot off the Press 190617

Like sands through an hourglass and so are the days of. No! I can’t finish it. It’s another Hot off the Press! Another week has gone and a new one dawning. Always feel like I’m behind and I can’t catch up!

Days of our lives

Last week, I had a little catch up on self-maintenance. Had a nice paraffin hand treatment. Not because I’ve been particularly wealthy, but because the anniversary of my WTS, White Tail Spider bite has happened and the itchiness and the peeling skin has ended and putting moisture back into my one good hand was imperative. Had my lovely Mio/Remedial massage at home in my own lounge (which is heated) unlike the old bluestone church I normally re-dive my free community it’s health services. Definitely plan to keep the rest of the day free so I can go kip. It’s a plan!

White tailed spider

Moved some comics, it’s from the big pile to the smaller one. Three comics this week, well I’d half-read one of them, but again still counts!

I imagine I’ve failed to mention I read the Joss Whedon comics? Buffy, Angel, Spike, Willow to name just a few? There! Now, I have.

Joss Whedon

Have been watching a doco-type TV show on cars. From the UK. Not your family style station wagons at all but I’m behind on all TV shows because I watch so very much. And yes, TG, that’s Top Gear is on that list. I’m just discovering if it is any good without Jeremy Clarkson and the lads? Jury is still out. It’s too soon to tell. My original Hellonwheels scootering T-Shirt is a Stig Tee. Of the Tame Racing Car driver. I really wanted the T-Shirt that announced “I am the stig!” because it’s a mystery who wears the white suit. Or is it?

Top Gear

I’ve been having a Hate/Hate relationship with my oven. Just made a carrot cake, which went better than the first attempt. This one managed to get cream cheese frosting on it. I now must proceed to give as much away as possible, so I’m not tempted to eat some every day. Just starred at it longingly wondering if I could have it for breakfast? (The answer is of course no. You cannot!) as I’m taking my breakfast to eat on the train to the city. Yes, it’s my Bullshit form of retirement I have.

And a planned afternoon tea with some friends on Tuesday. Stay tuned.

Managed to implement a successful Single Girl Date Nite! I watched a DVD a friend loaned to me. “An Affair to Remember.” Good Lord! Just consulted the Google Machine……it was released back in 1957!

Single Girl Date Night

Have still failed to improve my sleeping pattern, and will be reporting as much tomorrow when I see my Shrink! However, Saturday night was in bed by 12.30am! So, it’s fair to say, I’m feeling old! As that used to be the time I was arriving at the first club on a Saturday night! Life as I knew it is over. Is this really it?

Still, all the same drama and red tape to sort funding. In particular for the rather Exe shoes I need for my AFO.
