The Like

Today, I thought I’d write about how I started blogging and the process I use to be a valuable contributing member in the WordPress community.

Now, I have been writing since I was a teenager, nothing worth saying, but writing extremely all the same, but I’ve been posting and blogging consistently since November 2015 and when I began, I trusted Noelle to sort out who to follow. I gather she picked the top 10 bloggers and over the years, a few of my favourites still post with regularity, some have fallen away and a few I unfollowed fairly quickly after I realised their blog was not what I was after.

I mean, I can only deal with so many carefully manicured red nailed fingers smashed into a woman’s well waxed snatch (vagina; not kidding) that I can cope with.

In case you are wondering, my limit for the above was one. One, and done!

Well, I think I also want at the bitching, whinging and moaning ‘he’ was using to complain about how his wife had cheated on him, while he was overseas fighting for his country and maybe, it’s because your wife is bi-polar and you were self-medicating  with a S & M lifestyle and when you weren’t there, she looked for another.

Not suggesting any of those things are wrong, just it’s your life and you can choose how you live it. But if it goes sideways, you deal with the consequences.

I have a rule of thumb, if a blog inspires me, I will follow. If I think I can help you in some way to better understand the shit you are dealing with, I will comment. Short and pitchy, in the comments. Because, they wrote the post, it’s not for me to write a blogpost in their comments section.

On a rare occasion, I will email someone for a more in-depth conversation, because I consider that’s the medium for more informative advice.

If someone new likes a blogpost I will go check out their blog, if it interests me, even if they haven’t chosen to follow my blog, I will follow theirs.

Also, I will give them a ‘Like’ to say I’ve visited. I have the rule I don’t follow everyone that chooses to follow me.

I just figure, if you need numbers, it happens organically and it takes time and after a while I check how many followers I have and I’m surprised.

My first blog post, I got followers. I mentioned it to Noelle, my administrator, I was so excited, I went to check out their blog and they had created a profile, but had no contact. Sadly, I’ve never seen them like another post since. But with that first follower, Noelle said the wisest of words ever “Keep writing”.

Now, five hundred posts later, two hundred and forty plus followers later, I’m still chipping away at the past, present end, I’ll get caught up in the end. What I hope for the future.

Today’s Lunch – 18th September 2019

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Really struggling to keep on top of things at the moment. Failing at so many things and feeling sad about it. Allow me to list but a few………

Failing at my emails…..
Failing at my followers emails……..sorry. Very, very sorry. Still!
Failing at getting to bed at a more reasonable time.
So, failing at sleep clinic!
Failing at being a good friend, so I’m told ……….
Failing at getting my shit done so I can maintain some semblance of a pain-free life.
Or at least making it look like I’m not failing at life.
Failing at keeping anxiety and depression at bay.
Failing at not swearing at my GP appointments.
Said Fuck 7 times yesterday! I asked.
I thought I had been holding back!

Felt like such a zombie yesterday I had a double-shot latte with lunch. I had a brain grain salad. It is very good.

Today’s lunch, a Moroccan chicken salad and instead of my standard medicine today…. I’m having a London Fog!

And now for the Little Red Truck, always brings a smile to my face…

On the upside, it’s only mid-September and I’ve achieved my New Year’s resolution. I finished that bottle of Baileys I had been storing in my fridge for the last two Christmas’s. Got a taste for Baileys now. Also had a delivery from my Egg-Dealer! It always makes me Egg-cited! Get it?

Cheers,
H

Life Works

Life Works

I have implemented many thing’s gradually over the years to make Life Work. Also, likely helps my brain be a bit happier, even though one of my processes requires at least an hour of my time on a Sunday every single week.

But I do it.

I have a spreadsheet a friend created for me, that I enter the details of carers I’ve had, from what time they started to what time their shift finished with me. The type shift it was (PC/HC/FP/Shopping/CA)

PC – Personal Care
HC – Homecare (also called General)
FP – Food Preparation
CA – Community Access

*Here’s the thing that should excuse my Service Providers, I even comment if they were late, didn’t turn up at all or the person I was expecting didn’t show and someone else did in their place and nobody bothered to call and tell me.

I guess, you might consider it part of my initial auditing system. It’s probably also, why a Service Provider I originally went with has never put my name forward to be called to be audited by the NDIS. Yeah.

One day, my Case Manager (Now called Service Co-ordinator) was on my computer while I was out of the room getting started on ‘something’ and I realized later I had been updating my spreadsheet before he arrived, despite it not being a Sunday.

After he left, I found sitting on my desktop a there was a screen-shot of my spreadsheet just sitting there. So innocently, um…

He had very obviously taken a screen shot to email it to himself and not thought to get rid of the evidence.

Did I mention it to anyone? Was it my fault? (not victim blaming) just being trusting. Obviously, I shouldn’t have had the file open or let him even on my computer. However, I don’t use them for any services anymore. I do not recommend them and if anybody asks, I don’t suggest them. Sounds bitchy, I am aware, however. Finally, the person who is always treated like a commodity, has the power. I can take my funding elsewhere.

This is why I’m often doing emails at 1am and going to bed so late. I wish my day ended at 5pm.

Email Madness

Email madness

Email Madness

There are many problems with being part of ABI groups for your social/advocacy/empowering blah de blah, or any disability group maybe.

ABI Groups

I’m really loathe to do the “Reply-all” option on emails. I avoid it at all costs. Because sooner or later one complete fuckwit does “Replay-all” and I get an email saying this – “That’s such a cool font. What is it?”

reply-all-fart

And I have to take a deep breath when I’m thinking “Why do I need to know that? C’mon!”

Sometimes, these are the problems that seem first world problems, but for me with my high functioning ABI, I can’t help it.

Off the Grid

Off the Grid

Off the Grid

Today is Saturday and it’s a day I let myself go ‘off grid’. It’s a way to survive, I’ve broken so many of my own rules today.

  1. I turned on my mobile phone.
  2. I put on a bra (not really).
  3. I left the house.

I walked ten minutes to the tram and caught the tram to the city. (it takes thirty minutes) Had about four conversations by the time I got to the city. WENT TO MY FIRST EVER RALLY.

Taxi rally

It was a Taxi rally, or a rally for Taxi drivers to be paid appropriately for their Taxi licences. Oh Yeah!

  1. I checked emails.

Emails feel like work, without the luxury of sitting at a desk in an office.

These days, I maintain two emails. One for personal “stuff” and the second for blogs. (The ones I follow and the one’s that follow me.)

Emails need to start only taking four hours or less a day. This is why even when I’m on a tram between appointments, I’ll cull emails.

Multitasking, Multitasking, Multitasking.

Multitasking

I should mention the Pedometer on my phone normally tells me I collected twenty-six steps, which must have been from midnight and 2am when I take my phone to bed to charge.

Today, 2,810 steps and I don’t carry my phone on my person, so all the steps I did doing laundry, chores and baking after getting home.

Pedometer

Think I’m going off-grid tomorrow instead. Going to be sore tomorrow. Yeah you are….

Nearly thirteen years ago, I was doing a job that apparently required a certificate IV in work place training and assessment. While I had been and admin assistant, I did the work of a TPO (Training Placement Officer).

Admin assistant

I had twice attempted the course while I was in the role, but while I passed the practical I hadn’t had time to do the written.

After three years in the role, I was seriously shafted. Bullied by other staff who were incompetent and just didn’t want to do their job. Turns out putting your head down and getting on with the actual ‘work’ didn’t prove enough that you weren’t the problem.

Office work

In HR terms, I was the easier person to get rid of and worst of all, I was dumped out into the market place at a time no one in the industry was employing, because contracts were up for renewal. I managed to score a job with a TAFE with their work for the Dole area and they had me ‘Culling files’. The staff running around the office like chooks with their heads cut off and I could tell they were struggling however, they didn’t trust my knowledge of the contract. (How their business operated) so they wouldn’t give me any responsibility. They kept me as a casual until they knew what ongoing contracts they had.

I had to interview for a position back in the region I had spent three years working for the first orgainisation and I could manage the clientele very well.

Client management

The clients were all ages and the bulk of my workload was the “You don’t understand! I’ve been a student for the last fifteen years, I need to take a year off.”

Yeah! Damn eighteen-year old’s who think High School was going to be enough to set them straight. Never fear, I had a few clients that were the complete opposite, remembered not by name, but by the black Doc Martin boots she wore with purple laces.

Doc Martens

She had, had a job getting up at 4amworking with horses. She would do a job again with that kind of start time. That job gave me a half a day of conflict resolution training by someone who trained people at Quantico in the States.

There were some clients in that region when they left the office, we would sigh with relief, clean up the destruction they left in their wake and mutter to each other “That one! Clocktower with a rifle! Next week!”

Bad clients

Slight exaggeration, but still. The sentiment was not far off.

I made a little fib about ‘having’ my Cert IV for that job! They put me in an office without net, that was not fully set up. No networked computers. I had dial-up internet and I was on ‘graphics-heavy software’ and I was often the ‘Helpdesk’ over the phone to untrained staff at another office.

To make my point, everything was slow. My printer was also a fax machine and my phone.

For safety purposes, I should not have ever opened the door for anyone. I did for clients and I had to hope for the best obviously. More experienced staff who never came to my office rang for contacts I had maintained from my previous work.

Safety reasons

Once they had my knowledge and expertise, they got rid of me. Sorry, that was so long and painful, however trust me, that was the short version.

Termination

Next, stay tuned for a lesson on how to correctly wash dishes… No really.
