Here’s to 2023

Write a blog post mentioning the words “Slut & Player” on your own blog and get censored from an NGO you have been volunteering at for over 10 years. Wonder what 2023 will bring? Ah, never mind! Felt like 2022 kicked me in the face.

Happy New Year everybody. Let’s hope 2023 really brings its A-Game.

Getting this post to Noelle with days to spare, she will be impressed.

Welcoming in 2022

Welcoming in 2022

So I guess it’s time to say a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, so I suggest as 2022 starts I’m going to make a New Year’s resolution. A simple one and that is to better be able to decipher my own handwriting. As I’ve been one-handed for over 10 years now, I’ve started to develop carpal tunnel so I think this year will be getting much-needed carpel tunnel surgery.  Imagine this means ill have no hands for a bit. A week if all goes well.  To be continued.

January, I learnt years ago, that it is really hard is achieve anything in the Disability sector. So now I just have learned to relax and take time off. Not racing around trying to fit everything in, is a holiday in itself. So much still to do, including the now overdue Ladies Lunch with the Ladies in my family for our Christmas get together. Yeah, I know! Someone recently said, “You get together once a year with family for Christmas and realise why you don’t bother to see them during the year” Yes, a comedian, of course. Covid hasn’t made it any easier, but I think the less time we spend with family the less we have in common and the less we understand how to best communicate.

So, Christmas day I had a migraine because well I don’t get a day off from having migraines.
A friend came over for an hour to set up some tech and three days, later he told me he had to isolate and get tested for Covid-19 he was fine but he was very stressed about the two people he’s going to spend some time with on Christmas Day.

It is summer in Melbourne, I don’t tell many people I am spending Christmas alone, it is better to not  disclose this until after the fact. It doesn’t help when people give you lots of pity, for some people spending Christmas at home alone is better than all the alternatives. In my case staying at home means I get Carers from my normal agencies, I don’t lose my independence and it is easier to deal with being alone rather than spending time in someone else’s home and spending time alone.

The best time on my balcony as my Hot Chocolate Calla Lillie’s are in bloom.

A special mention to the anonymous person/ ‘s who gifted me my new iPhone 13. I’ve been learning new things. And hopefully I’ll get better at doing things Hands-Free. Briefly.

So, going forward please stay safe. Covid, sorry the Plague, is still kicking our asses, so be mindful, we don’t get to celebrate and have big parties (Plague-spreading events) just because we fear another Lockdown. Melbourne holds first place for the most to date. (6) Not something to be proud of. But here we are.

Today’s Lunch – 1st January 2020

Today’s Lunch

A very special good mental health day post!

Happy New Year! Now, recapping and completely from memory, I made a New Year’s resolution last year. I don’t normally bother but last year I did, I set the goal to finish that bottle of Baileys that had been in the bottom of my fridge the last 2 Christmas’s.

Well, I had to make a note once a month to remind me to have a little nip. But I’m proud to say. Nailed it! By July even and it was so good I was tempted to go get another smaller bottle. But alas, barely a drinker so I didn’t.

So, because it went so well, I thought I’d offer some New Year’s resolutions for me to achieve in 2020

Note: achievable goals. Don’t judge me……

Eat less meals every day on my couch, maybe one of those meals could be had at my dining table. Spoiler alert! I’ve been working on this already and 2. Baby steps here, get to bed by midnight. It’s really hard to break a life time of bad sleeping habits and to quote Stephanie in Norfolk “Rome wasn’t built in a day!” 3, and not in any particularly order, I intend to call friends more often to chat. Long chats.

Do you have any resolutions you want to share?

Let us all ask the Universe to bring us what we need in 2020. To be happy, safe and prosperous. To be kinder to others and ourselves and for there to be more time and lastly, a classic New Year’s anthem from my teenage years. Enjoy…..

Today’s Lunch – 25th December 2019

Today’s Lunch

Good mental health day! Or as I like to say Merry fucking Christmas!

It’s actually Tuesday right now, Christmas Eve as I tap this out. It’s a good day, I’m well-adjusted as I’ve seen my chiropractor who I won’t see now until mid-January. My girl Friday and I had fish and chips for lunch in Fairfield.

I will have a medicine later at home. I received a gift from my mum yesterday in the post and presuming it was a tree, due to its shape, I’ve left it to open tomorrow. A message late last night came from my mum stating I should open it and that it wasn’t a tree? I don’t know, you tell me? Mine is on the right, she lied didn’t she! It’s a tree!

My Christmas Tree

Mums Christmas Tree

Also, a photo of it during daylight without the lights on. I hope JD is impressed? As promised, cat-friendly. It is sitting on top of things in my living room about a metre off the ground and Mika can’t get to it, or shows little interest.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. Be safe and try not to eat too much. I received my new NDIS Plan just in time for Christmas. I’m not looking at it until Thursday and over the New Year, I need to take some time off. My first medical appointment in the new year is the 9th and all the crazy starts again.

Also, while my girl-Friday was away I had some fresh new carers, one day I was in K-Mart on an important call from a lawyer. Trying to take it seriously when I looked up and this is how my girl-Friday 2, Oh had kept herself busy……..

I don’t know how I made it through that phone call.

Lastly, a big thanks for my wonderful blog administrator Noelle for whom hellonwheels would not happen. I am lucky her husband has a thing for trying to give himself diabetes. Last week, I managed to mule some gifts their way via a friend.

And today, the 24th, I managed to mule some goodies to the States to be sent to my friend in Texas! I have a post to write about to gift for appropriating people to mule things for me.

Also, Many thanks for my 200+ followers, for comments from close and far. Hope to see you in 2020!

Rest! Replenish and see you back for more in 2020!

Todays lunch

Today’s Lunch

Happy New Year 2019. When did that happen? How many of my followers were born after 2000 I wonder? Feel free to comment.

Happy New Year

You might recall I went to lunch with some high school friends after Christmas. Yes, that happened. Photos of proof? That did not happen, I imagine if I explain my morning you will better understand how these things get missed.

Forgot Photos

Try getting to sleep around 5.30am, waking around 10am, scrambling to have a shower where the water pressure leaves a lot to be desired. It’s called country living. We hit the road to get to the arranged meeting place and we had the whole hour it would take to get there by 1pm. First there is the gravel road to navigate and the swerving of the road, the hills and dips that we navigate. Did I mention I get motion sickness? My mum has missed her calling as a rally car driver. After being on the road 10 minutes phone reception kicks in and I’m inundated with messages and texts, despite all of the above and mum driving at 95 kilometres an hour, me checking and replying to messages and because there was flooding damage along the way mum giving me a tourist guide description of fences down, the piles of refuge that has been dragged out of creek beds.

Rally Driving

A few weeks before Christmas my hometown was inundated with floods. Well, all the outlying areas that usually flood this time even the freeway on the outskirts of town were unpassable. While Melbourne was said to have had a month’s worth of rain in a day, my mums area had a month’s worth of rain in half a day and the creeks near her, run down into the river that goes through all the low-lying areas. A young couple made the news because they had been rescued from the roof of their car by helicopter. (Sounds great right? Wait for the punchline) The girl said the water was fine, it was more the spiders! Turns out spiders don’t like to drown either………shudder! I’ve mentioned my white tail spider bites previously and the baby huntsman only last week. Made a quick stop at the bank teller and my loss of eyesight means for a frustrating transaction. Don’t see the prompts, swearing. Etc. Arrive at the destination and lemon, lime and bitters. Bliss! Oh, and it’s 34 degrees outside! Don’t know how that translates to wherever you might be? But keep in mind my happy place is 25!

Flood waters

So, when I order lunch, I order salt and pepper calamari. It’s soft and cooked just right. The chips, not so great. The salad could have been bigger. But it was over. Hence, the no photo, but it was delicious!

Delicious Calamari

Returned to Melbourne on Sunday night and didn’t stop until I was completely unpacked and I had cleaned up my couch and dining table.

Unpacking 1

January can be a bit slow after Christmas, many places close or people are still on leave from work. Today is my first day back at chiropractor and acupuncture and I’m not filling my days with too much as there is no point and even, I need some time out. I had been promised my new plan from the NDIS review before Christmas. They had literally told me it was a definite since my extension on the last plan ends 5 Jan 2019 and I’ll let you know when I get it. If the 3-month extension had been given from the end date of my actual plan it would go another month but it seems it’s all about not providing funding. I find it all rather morally bankrupt. The plan is generally what funding you have and what you are meant to spend it on although written in such a way you will never use it all and be very frustrated trying to work it out. I guess if you get pissed off enough you might just go get a job. If only I could.

Spent New Year’s Eve unpacking a parcel I had received from a blogger friend in Norfolk in the U.K. Stephanie Faith and her family of little Chau wow wow’s. (Sorry, I got it from a comedian) The box was almost childproof. Almost. Mika’s fish is fantastic! I’ll need to teach her how to play as she isn’t big on toys. I love it! Rally love my new salt and pepper shakers. They are purr-fect too!

Mikas fishSalt and Pepper

I hope you put together your jigsaw puzzle.

So, today’s lunch, I’m already in my summer foodie happy place, because, salt & pepper calamari with salad & sum chippies.

People have a habit of problem solving my issues by trying to talk me out of needing the very thing I know I need. Anything to get out of having to help me do the actual thing.

Problem solving

We’ve all worked with those people who if they just did their damn job.

Do your job

Happy New Year

Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year… May 2019 be all you can dream of…

New Years Eve

New Years Eve

New Year’s Eve

For weeks now, I’ve been excited (slight exaggeration) for plan’s for celebrating New Year’s Eve. Again, likely months ago now. Requests and offers of people coming to me, all politely declined.

Staying home

For the ten years I worked in clubs in my 20’s, meant every New Year’s Eve was out at a club I was working at.

Working New Years Eve

Sure, all my friends were there and it was like a huge friendly party with great music. But I still had to work.

These days, I don’t often go out in the evenings, if I do it’s with a friend who drives and they look after me, door to door.

It’s not a crowded and busy affair and ideally, I don’t come home so exhausted, I fall over just trying to make a cup of tea.

Cup of tea

My ideal New Year’s Eve these days, is being in bed alone by midnight, there is nothing more tragic than seeing in the New Year by watching some count down on TV.

In bed

Really, what’s the difference between 11.59pm, one night every year and 12.01am the following morning?

And New Year’s resolutions? Pass!

No New Years Resolution

Wait! For life to get easier, less stressful, for there to be money, peace, to catch up on my comics. No really, love.

OK, that’s enough…

Happy New Year
