Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Oh my God, is this week over yet!? I cancelled my osteo appointment Monday. It was cold and I needed a long weekend.

Yesterday, I had my follow-up with the sleep clinic. Not a sleep over just an update with the specialist. I checked in and went back out to get a coffee. Thought today I might give you a recap in photo form of my appointment yesterday? I don’t consider myself particular photogenic as I look in the mirror these days and think it is what it is. So, your welcome!

Me before coffee…

After medicine!

And before I get to today’s offering. You may recall, the lovely Caroline my masseuse has been in Italy. She’s been doing a little gardening while her husband has been doing some maintenance. I think it’s safe to say neither know how to do Holiday.

They are in Casole d’Elsa 11K from SAN Giminiano. South of Florence, north of Siena. And I’m quoting her directly, it is too crowded to go there this time of year. She took these photos just for me yesterday.

And finally, today’s offering is a homemade sausage roll with a burning chilli chutney with side salad and medicine.

I’m in Thornbury today at Cafe Crunch as I was running out of time. So, I’m close to acupuncture.

Miracle

Miracle

The beauty of being in Australia is we have a long weekend, being part of the Commonwealth means we get to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and not just once a year, but twice. Don’t ask me when, but TWICE.

Although I don’t work, even I’m glad to have an extra day off around the weekend. But it comes with some consequences, the appointments, the carers and services I normally spread out over five days, I have to squash them into only four. There are always extra things cropping up I need to fit into the mix.

Last week was a short week and the extra things being, my mum arriving Tuesday morning at 2am to collect my sister from the airport at 6am. So, my sleep was already compromised. I’d had my Friday services of shopping and my only food prep shift with a carer that had to happen somewhere else. Add to that the services on the Thursday I had to move to accommodate the above and you have the perfect storm. I’m surprised by the Friday I didn’t have a migraine.

Thursday, I had three carers all of which overlapped and I even had the scooter guy to do a maintenance sorting me out with two new batteries and a charger. I returned home with my shopping carer to do the food prep shift, where we normally smash out three things at once, part of each I’ve generally started to get ahead of the ‘crazy’. I had the gas guy there to check the burners of my stove top and they had NEVER BEEN DONE.

I think the apartment block is four to five years old and the fact I made it through the week without a migraine now, makes me think it could have been a miracle.

I think we have another long weekend next month, Cup Day, great. Gotta plan now to get ahead of that. It’s a month away.

Todays Lunch

Today’s Lunch

Good Mental Health Day

Allow me to introduce you to some beautiful things about Melbourne, spring and apartment living in today’s post.

We are currently in Spring Carnival season here in Melbourne, in Spring in Melbourne we get most of our rainfall. Yesterday was the Melbourne Cup! Supposedly, the race that stops the nation? (I wouldn’t know as I was asleep when it happened) and I woke this morning just before 8am to the sound of thunder, pouring rain, someone running past my front door down the hallway towards the lift and my water feature on my balcony had returned. Looking outside to the otherwise busy intersection to see rain coming down ‘side-ways!’. You know the kind? With the sound effects of (ssssshhhhhhhh!!!!)

Spring Carnival

Melbourne Cup is very well known for people getting dressed up (or down) people basically making a huge disgrace of themselves and celebrities hanging out and rubbing shoulders in a pavilion called the Birdcage and the catering being to die for.

Disgrace

In short, I’ve never been, I don’t gamble and despite it raining buckets, the race still goes on.
The water feature on my balcony, I have a drain pipe on my balcony that was bubbling up water, that in itself you might think what’s so bad about that? Um, yeah. I live on the second floor! This is not a great thing, but it’s only happened twice now and I’ve just signed a lease for my second year here so I shouldn’t stress?

Bsalcony flood

Also, because I’ve had a 4-day weekend due to the public holiday yesterday and purposely keeping Monday’s schedule clear, I venture out of the house for the first time since Friday!

Long Weekend

Doing full Person and back to my crazy normal Wednesday schedule. So today’s lunch is a pancetta quiche with side salad and my medicine.

Hot off the Press – 12th June 2017

Hot off the Press 1

I guess it’s as good as time as any to mention that Australia has a lot of long weekends. Well, I don’t know what the correct number to define ‘a lot’ but we have a few. It generally puts me in a good mood because it means I get to put ‘work’ aside and some of my ‘off-grid’ routine spreads from Saturday to Monday and in this case Tuesday even. This long weekend we can thank the Queen’s Birthday. (Officially, it was way too hard to explain, why so for some crazy reason I don’t know we celebrate the Queen’s Birthday on her actual birthday and for some crazy reason we do so a second time on a weekend in June. Far be it for me to complain. BAM!)

It seems better than that, while the VU (soz, Victoria University; Osteo) students have completed their year and Tuesdays RMIT (not apologising for this one; Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology; Mio/Remedial) students have finished also I no longer have weekly appointments on these days for a few months. So, my Tuesdays just cleared up.

Victoria University

It’s a very good thing as I am usually out 5 days a week, having appointments, scheduling, dealing with people who are not always doing their jobs properly, making my very existence very challenging. So, weekends mean I can’t follow-up with people who avoid my calls or emails all week long. I’m forced to take a break and concentrate on other things.

This weekend, so far, I’ve read 2.5 comics. I know…. sad. But the 1/2 counts. I’ve also been crossing off some TV shows. Nothing worth mentioning but remind me to tell you my Hot firemen story? You heard me. You have to wait……

Reading comics

Saturday single girl date night actually included a film! I watched, not for the first time Memoirs of a Geisha. Including the extras. Totally worth it.

No house-hunting to report, cannot get back into it. Everything I even check out online is not actually still available. I can’t get to the openings on a Saturday morning, and they are all too much for too little or too far from where I currently reside. Meanwhile, winter has hit and I’m already seeing my breath inside my home. It’s ridiculous.

Still no sign of my new fur-baby. Can’t afford the food or kitty litter anyway, so not happy! Wednesdays pilgrimage to the supply store where I get a fix of unconditional love from Bella/Killer was exceptional yet again. She throws herself against my shoe and I get to give her lots of pats. And no vet bills, etc.

Fur baby

I’ve started to spread my carers over 3 different agencies. I’ve a deadline now of mid-September to say good bye and replace the irreplaceable carers I’ve been getting from my council under HACC for the last 4 years. Seems an impossible task and stubbornly I don’t wanna. But I have to.

Had a few disasters in the kitchen, my carrot cake going into the bin, and my first effort at the Chocolate self-saucing pudding. Made a second today with a little help from my carer and the right oven temperature and foil made the second effort acceptable. Don’t worry I share it so I can’t eat it. Promise.

Kitchen disaster

Nothing else really to report, although I’m still on plunge coffee so not enjoying my medicine (coffee) as much and don’t know when this will change.

Glad I re-implemented my Wednesday lunches, it costs from $8-$15 so why can’t I when it gets me out, allows me lunch before 5pm, and I usually write posts for my blog, perhaps this week I’ll take a comic…. see if I can stay on a roll? I really should start posting my delicious lunches on a Wednesday. Might call it “lunch on Helen’s Punchy/Stabby day?”

Wednesday lunch

Well, it’s typical that first thing Monday my carefully laid plans go to shit because of the incompetence of my services, only certain staff volunteer to work on a public holiday. They do get paid better and from my end I will be lucky to see a carer I’ve had previously, they usually get lots of difficult clients they have never had before. My carer was promised at 9am. It’s now after 1pm and I’m still waiting. Need to get my extra-long weekend back on track.

Great week

Cheers,

H
